Max Dupain: His use of Shapes and Shadows

Max Dupain: His use of Shapes and Shadows
Max Dupain has explored shapes and shadows in this image with the shadow of the photographer being cast unto to person in the photo. He is obviously standing above the person laying in the photo to get a different perspective.

Max Dupain has explored shapes and shadows in this image with the shadows of the human body when the sun is cast from above the subject. He is lying down on the ground to find a new perspective and viewpoint variation on what seems to be a commonly found position.

Max Dupain has explored shapes and shadows in this image by capturing natural movements and activities of Australians in this time, meaning this is not staged. The sun is beaming onto the subjects of the photo with a large shadow casting onto the wall behind them. He is using viewpoint variations with the photo being taken from a front on to capture the effects of the sun on a figure.

Max Dupain has explored shapes and shadows in this image with his viewpoint variation of looking down on the photo. He uses a diagonal line in the image with the shadow of the tree covering the footpath. He is using viewpoint variation with being inside a building or on a balcony to get a new perspective on a pretty boring spot, a street footpath.

Max Dupain has explored shapes and shadows in this image with using the body figure, sunlight and water to create a mirror-like effect. He uses leading lines in the photo with the rope the men are holding and then the men which draw your eyes out to sea.

His Influence on my photos:
Max Dupain has had an effect on my photos as I am now always looking for a different angle, something no one would do. An angle that can turn something that may be boring or uninteresting into a beautiful shot. He did this a lot with his photos like the sunbaker. Max Dupain also captures photos which are not staged, meaning they show natural movements or things that were done at the time. This gives us an insight into the lifestyle of the time.
